Tanya Burr Cosmetics Soft Luxe Lip Gloss Collection

Happy hump day everyone! I hope you’re all enjoying this heatwave, unless you’re stuck at work like me… Booooooo! I’m not going to lie to you all; I did mainly purchase these lip glosses purely for the Tanya Burr name, but I don’t regret a thing. My Tanya Burr lip gloss journey began a few weeks ago when I noticed a tweet about her upcoming Luxe range and the release date. I thought to myself “for once, I will actually be organised and grab something on the release date.” I set a reminder on my phone and went on my jolly way.

A couple of weeks later I’d COMPLETELY forgotten about the whole thing when my phone buzzed. I have never raced to the Feel Unique site so fast in all my life! Once there I was totally overwhelmed with the choices and the gorgeous shades. One thing led to another and… I bought all three. (Being indecisive with a time limit is a fatal combination). A few days of nail biting went by and ta-daaaaaaah.

First Impressions

I absolutely love the packaging of these lip glosses. The pinky tones are gorgeous and are complimented so well by the gold detailing of the tube. I also love the rectangular shape to these as I sometimes find products with rounded edges to be quite tricky to open & by using brute force I end up covering my room in it. (Speaking of messes: I hope you guys like the glitter I used for these photos. It took about half an hour trying to get the stuff off my bedroom floor and off my hands!!!)

Based solely on how the lip glosses looked in the packaging, my favourite was definitely Martha Moo. I’ve definitely slipped into a comfort zone recently with darker nudes and I found it calling to me – but I kept an open mind throughout!

I’m going to show you these in order of what I tried first, as I feel like my opinions were definitely swayed by how the previous lip gloss made me feel & how my expectations had been built.

The first one I tried, unsurprisingly, was Martha Moo as it caught my eye from the very beginning!

Martha Moo

Can I just say how amazing the name for this lip gloss is?! For anyone who doesn’t particularly follow Tanya Burr (you are missing out big time), Martha is the name of her little sausage dog who always seems to be wrapped up in the sheets snoozing away. She is the cutest little thing ever and ahhhh. Ahem, fan-girling time over. I can only presume that Tanya named this lip gloss after Martha as it is a slightly darker shade of pink, verging on purply tones – which will be PERFECT for autumn!

The very first thing I noticed when I opened this product was the amazing smell! This lip gloss honestly smells like you’ve just stepped into a patisserie first thing in the morning after all the lovely cakes have been laid out … *Salivating*. The scent is so sweet but in a very natural, non-processed, kind of way!

I’m not going to lie, when I first looked at the colour before I applied it I thought “Oh no… maybe this is a bit TOO dark for my silver hair and borderline ivory skin tone”…. But looks can be deceiving, so I took a deep breath and brushed the applicator (which is incredibly soft and fluffy by the way) across my arm.

This shade is so so so pretty!! I really didn’t need to worry at all. It’s a really nice berry-like red which means that it’s not a particularly loud red and can be worn from day to day. This lip gloss will really compliment those with a darker skin tone as it will be a more nude-like red, and also those with paler skin as it is a gorgeous shade of dark pink. I’m in love.

A closer look – Puppy Paws

This is the shade that I was most anxious about as I have a bit of a fear of bright pink. I think this fear stems from being blonde and not wanting to fit to the “ditsy-airhead” stereotype. This is totally ridiculous I know. Colour has absolutely zilch to do with intelligence, and my hair colour doesn’t define me. Yet from a very young age I have always avoided pink like the plague!

As you can see this pink is pretty Barbie-like, *shudder*, and when it arrived I didn’t feel particularly excited to try it! In fact, if I’m honest I did put it off for a few hours… or days. I’m really scared of pink okay!!! BUT I did buy this shade, if for no other reason, to push me out of my comfort zone.

I once again loooove the name of this one as it just reminds me of the really pink pads of puppy paws (as I’m sure was Tanya’s intention). It just makes me swoon inside… I really want a puppy.

I’d love to tell you all that I was completely converted after swatching this one…

But unfortunately that would be a lie. I think this is one that I’ll just have to learn to love. I must conquer my fear of all things pink, and my purchasing this lip gloss was the first step. Maybe one day I will actually wear it outside of the house!

A closer look – Rhubarb & Custard

I was much more excited about this shade, as I am completely and utterly obsessed with coral lip products and I’m always on the lookout for the next best shade.

Rhubarb & Custard

This lip gloss is so much more appealing to me at first glance! It’s a gorgeous summery colour, yet is far enough away from the pinky tones for me to feel comfortable.

This name has got to be my favourite yet! Rhubarb & custard was one of my favourite desserts when I was little, and it just reminds me of primary school dinners. To some, that would be a nightmare but our dinner lady was amazing and mmmmmmm homemade rhubarb crumble!!!

I thoroughly apologise for the cack-handedness of this swatch. My only excuse is that I got a little excited with the amazing colour! This instantly makes me think of the Spring/Summer seasons and I’ll be sporting this lip gloss to the office to brighten my day!

The quality

Although not quite up to the extremely high standards set by Kylie Cosmetics, this is a very close competitor. I’ve worn a couple of these shades a handful of times now, and have managed to have at least one main meal with several drinks in between before they start to wear off!

What I did notice is how incredibly difficult these lip glosses are to take off – they are almost industrial! If you’re wanting to start tomorrow with a fresh set of lips, I would thoroughly recommend investing in some lip scrub if I were you, because a normal makeup wipe just isn’t going to cut it where these are concerned. Having said that, I won’t complain about how tricky they are to take off. I would much rather that than have them wearing off after a sip of water like most other lip products I own.

So… Puppy Paws looks… Well, being totally honest it looks DREADFUL on me!

I don’t want to be hyper critical of this one but it is just far to pale, and yet too bright a pink for me!

I don’t feel comfortable at all in this shade, in fact, immediately after taking this photo I ran to my makeup wipes on a mission to get it off my face!

Maybe one day I will warm to this shade, but for now it’s definitely going at the bottom of my list…

How they look on – Rhubarb & Crumble

Ahhhhh, much better. Rhubarb & Crumble is such a gorgeous, bright summer colour! Admittedly, this shade is still slightly out of my comfort zone as it is quite bright but I felt so pretty the day I wore this.

I think this is definitely one to wear with a more basic style of eye makeup, a cute pink blush, and of course a huge smile because your make up is on fleek!!!

I’m going to be trying this one out loads over the summer and will hopefully build my “pink” courage and force myself to be more adventurous with my lip shades.

Either way, I’m so so happy that I bought this shade because it’s completely unique to all my other lip sticks.

How they look on – Martha Moo

Martha Moo is definitely my go-to first thing in the morning, AND when I’m getting ready for a big night out and here’s why:

This is such a gorgeous nude which makes my lips feel so much fuller, I feel like Tanya Burr herself when I’m wearing it (I’m so jealous of her full lips).

I’ve had so many compliments whilst wearing this shade and if I’m ever in need of a pick me up, I will always feel at my most confident in this!

The price

On the date of release, these lip glosses were priced up at only £3.99 on Feel UniqueBARGAIN. Today it looks like you can grab these lip glosses for £5.99 from Feel Unique when you click here or for the same price at Superdrug when you click here.

As I said before, these aren’t quite as long lasting as the Kylie lip kits, but for that amazing price I’m so glad I stocked up! I can’t think of a single lip gloss on the market right now for such a decent price which lasts as long as these do.

Final thoughts

Although not every single shade is for me, I am totally thrilled with my bargain purchases. Tanya Burr has done amazingly well to create such a quality product for such low cost. I am so exciting to see if she decides to bring out more shades in the Luxe range, I really hope to see some more autumnal colours in the future, like a burnt orange… She could call it Jaffa Cake?! Okay, I’m getting slightly ahead of myself I think…

Interested in seeing some more lip products? Check out my posts on the Kylie Cosmetics lip kits: Koko K & Candy K. Candy K is my favourite and is similar to Martha Moo, whilst Koko K is probably most like Puppy Paws… but less intimidatingly pink.
