Kylie Jenner Lip Kit of Kylie Cosmetics: Ginger

Forgive me bank account for I have sinned… Again. A few weeks ago Kylie Jenner announced the release of some new summer shades, so I thought to myself “ooh well I’ll just have a little look”. Roughly a month later and here I am. It’s becoming a bit of an old story now isn’t it? I’ll stop justifying my Kylie Cosmetics addiction soon I promise. The first step is admitting you have a problem, or so they say. In this new post I will be revealing the stunning new summer shade Ginger and comparing it to my other lip kits (trust me, you really don’t want to miss out on this one).

The new shades – why Ginger?

When I heard that Kylie was dropping some summer shades, my ears perked up and my tail wagged – I just couldn’t wait to see what amazing colours Kylie had invented this time. As always Kylie went above and beyond my expectations. The colours were “Maliboo”, “Kristen” and “Ginger”. Maliboo is a gorgeous pale blush pink shade, but it seems VERY pale, and I worry about pale lipsticks and replicating the old foundation lip trend – tragedy – so that didn’t really take my fancy. Kristen (named after Kylie’s Mum) is the PERFECT red; with subtle pink undertones it could be described as a strawberry red. I did manage to get my hands on that one, so you will have to keep your eyes peeled to see my review. Out of the three beautiful shades Ginger caught my eye the most.  The only way I can think to describe it is a pale orange/brown shade. It is so different to any other lip colour I’ve ever seen, I just had to have it!

Postage & packaging

As always, Kylie delivered (wheeeeeey – I’m here all week!). In all seriousness though, the P&P is really expensive but when you consider that it’s shipped from the states and that the packaging itself is flawless – I find it difficult to complain.

One thing I dread when I order from Kylie Cosmetics is the long and painful wait for your items to come. It only takes 2-3 weeks but when you’re forking out about £35 for some makeup, you want it there STAT. But having said that, once your beautiful package DOES arrive, you forget all about that negativity and bask in the monochrome glory.

First impressions

When I opened the package the shade on the box looked COMPLETELY different to what I’d seen on Kylie’s lips or on her swatches online, which threw me off massively. The sides of the box are usually spot on to what colour it would actually look on your lips – I’ve never experienced it to be different.

Ginger un-boxed

As you can probably see from the photo, the colour on the box looks quite berry toned. Perfect for Autumn… Equally not what I ordered.

Luckily, when I un-boxed the lip kit my faith in Kylie was restored as the Ginger which I had envisioned looked exactly how I imagined. Lucky job really because I have about 50 berry lipsticks.

I’m so obsessed with this colour! I really can’t think of a single other lipstick like it. Well done to you Kylie – for individuality it gets a 10/10. When I did the swatch it seemed to be a fair bit darker than what I’d seen on Kylie. That isn’t altogether surprising though when you consider our skin tones. Unfortunately I’m not quite as dark as the Jenners/Kardashians naturally. I think I’ll need to buy out a self tanning business to catch up. Although the tone seems darker, I didn’t lose hope – I’ll never judge a lipstick until I try it on properly.

So how does it look?

I LOVE THIS LIP KIT SO MUCH. Ginger is 100% my favourite shade right now! It may not be a “summer shade” for me as my skin tone makes it look quite dark, but it is so striking and unique regardless. Honestly, if it could walk and talk I would take it up the aisle.

My favourite thing about wearing this shade is the amount of compliments I get on my eye and hair colour. For some reason Ginger just makes my eyes and hair POP – perhaps because orange and blue are on opposite ends of the colour wheel?

This lip kit is so incredibly unique and show stopping – it will honestly take so much energy to stop myself from wearing it every day. HOLD ME BACK.

Worth the price tag?

AB-SO-LUTELY. As I’ve said probably about 1000 times throughout this post – I have no idea where else I would be able to grab this shade! (By all means, if you have an inexpensive dupe, please let me know!) It is as long lasting as all my other Kylie Cosmetics lip kits. I can go through an entire day at work and drink and eat as much as I like without worrying about smudges and dry patches.

It also helps that Kylie’s releases are roughly once a month and her new releases are even farther apart. This means that I can’t blow all my money in one go. I mean, I could, but I don’t intend to buy any lip kits which don’t steal my heart.
